Enough is Enough...

This might be a controversial post, but at this point I'm simply just fed up with what I'm seeing happen around me!
I'm a Mexican-American, and a daughter of two immigrant parents. My parents came to this country in hopes for a better life. Whether it's a better life is something I'm beginning to wonder about. They came here in their 20's worked hard and became legal residents during the amnesty. My dad was kicked out of the country several times before the amnesty. Today, they are proud home owners, and parents to 4 children that all went to college, my 2 oldest brothers are college graduated and my brother and I are soon to follow. Being Mexican is something I'm Very proud of, I love Mexico, my culture, my huge and loving family, and the values I've learned from the hard working family members around me. The fact that I even had to write this blog make me sick. It's 2010 and 30+ years that my parents have been in this country, and frankly I don't think much has changed.

We Steal Jobs:
This statement makes me so angry. Immigrants do jobs like pick fruit, mow your lawn, care for your children, sew your clothes, and work in factories with barely workable conditions. Which honestly are jobs Americans would NEVER want to do or CANT do. Most people wouldn't know a thing about caring for a garden and their ability of raising children is questionable. We take advantage of the food on our table and the clothes on our back, not surprising for our society. If any normal American did the jobs that most immigrants do they wouldn't last an hour. Companies get away with paying wages that are much lower than whats required for the standard of living. My mom picked fruit when she was pregnant with me and a legal resident of this country. She could have easily sat on her ass watched TV and received checks from the Government but that's just not the way hard working people are raised. My father would get kicked out of the country after 12hr+ work days picking our fruit. If immigration is such a problem then maybe we should lower our unemployment rate and get out and do some labor!

Being Different:
I came from a primarily Hispanic community that might be why I never noticed I was "different". It's 2010 and being Mexican is still strange to some people. I never realized it until I got out of my hometown and LA. Some people make harmless comments but others have a different take. My parents raised me to be race-blind, I don't look at a person and judge them by their cover. Sadly that isn't the case on the other side of it. I still hear of people saying, "wet-back"or "beaner", people's ignorance and stupidity is something that surprises me just about everyday. How or when is it Ever ok to say that or call someone that. People freak out that I'm not big fan of beans, they say, "but your Mexican?" Because that makes Perfect sense!!!! To think that I do or like things because the color of my skin is pure stupidity.

Immigration Laws:
Dear Arizona, thank you for taking the responsibility of the Federal government and creating an unconstitutional law. If you are unaware, the newly passed Arizona state law allows police officers to stop anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant and asking for documentation. They argue that they do this to Everyone they pull over but the sad truth is that this will lead to racial profiling. I understand that things along the border are bad right now but but this law is the worst approach to the problem. Maybe if the U.S. stopped it's high demand for drugs the criminals wouldn't have any business being in Mexico or the U.S. Every person of somewhat colored skin will be targeted and the authority will have a law to throw around and use as an excuse to segregate Hispanics. I agree that the U.S. needs to be a safer place to live, but to target one race of people is wrong. If any illegal immigrant commits a crime, I agree they shouldn't be in this country but we need the services of all these hard working people. Instead of pushing them ALL away, we should acknowledge people that work hard and punish only the criminals. We need to realize the "American Dream" is something not only American strive for, any hard working individual should have the right to live their dream wherever they want.
I'm American and I'm Mexican and Enough is Enough.
Lets end stupidity and not repeat mistakes from our past!
